President of the Midland Bedlington Terrier Club Dr Hefin Jones was awarded the OBE in the New Year's Honours for his services to medicine in Wales.

Dr Jones qualified as a doctor at the University of Birmingham in 1970 and has been a GP in Merthyr Tydfil since 1973. During this time he has been involved in medical education at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. He has also been involved in numerous research projects. He has served on many advisory bodies, relating to medicine, and for the last six years has been the Chief Professional Advisor to the Welsh Assembly Government.

Both Dr. Jones and his wife have owned several breeds of dogs including a Welsh Springer Spaniel and West Highland White Terriers and many rescue dogs. They currently show Bedlington Terrier under the Pengerrig affix. The most recent member of the clan is Pengerrig Iron Duke who at 8 months ha s won B.P.I.B at Bath and Southern Counties Championship Shows.

Dr and Mrs Jones are committee members of Terrier of South Wales and the Midland Bedlington Terrier Club where Dr. Jones is the current President. He is also the treasurer of the Bedlington Terrier Health Group.
