Sign language for deaf Collie

A HOMELESS Border collie Johnny has learned sign language in a bid to find himself a new home.

The deaf eight-year-old dog at Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in West Calder knows six hand signals and commands, with "sit" and "come back" being the most important to keep him out of danger. But Johnny's favourite is the thumbs-up sign, meaning "good boy".

Staff say Johnny needs an active owner, preferably in a quieter home, who is willing to continue his sign language and devote a lot of time to him.

Dogs Trust is the UK's largest dog welfare charity, caring for more than 13,500 stray or abandoned dogs every year through its network of 16 Rehoming Centres across the UK.

Anyone interested in rehoming Johnny or any of the other rescue dogs at Dogs Trust West Calder should get in touch with the Rehoming Centre directly on 01506 873459.
