The AMERICAN Water Spaniel has been officially recognised by the KC with effect from 1 July 2006 on the Imported Breed Register.

The breed will be classified in the Gundog Group, as part of the Spaniel Sub-Group in respect of its working activities. The breed will not, as yet, be able to be exhibited at Kennel Club licensed breed shows.
