Best in show Ro and Nigel Cox’s Irish Setter, Tiroen Taylormade and Reserve Best Louise Morgan’s Tibetan Terrier, Araki Vice Versa

The Guernsey Kennel Club held their second Open Show of the Year with Mrs Rosemary Lord in the Non-Sporting Ring and Mr Alf Wood in the Sporting Ring writes Ro Cox.

A number of Jersey competitors braved a rather lumpy crossing and made it over to support this wonderfully run show, at which all Group winners and Best Puppy in show and Reserve Best Puppy in show qualified for Crufts.

In the Non Sporting Ring the Toy group was in first with Pat Dale and Pat Michel’s Pekingese Ksarina Star Vision taking the honours and Julian Schofield’s Pomeranian, Thelbern Bold As Brass getting Group 2. Best Puppy was Yvonne Windsor’s Yorkshire Terrier, Davonne’s Stylish Impact and Miss S Bennett’s Pomeranian, Thelbern Monsieur Le Blanc was Reserve Best Puppy in Group.

Yvonne Windsor’s Yorkshire Terrier, Davonne’s Golden Illusion was Best Junior and Novice in Group and Fiona Officer’s Chinese Crested Shipstone I Got Rhythm was Best Yearling. Pauline and Louise Morgan’s Papillon, Blackpark Junior was Best Veteran in Group.

In the Working Group, Group 1 went to Mr J Whitsker’s Dobermann, Amazon Hot Love with Group 2 going to Alison Battrick’s Great Dane, Sarawen Black Queen of Jancerie. Best Puppy in Group was Georgina Bennett’s Rottweiler, Hassavant Charleton and Margaret Bayes’ homebred Boxer, Docrema Mystic Meg was Reserve Puppy in Group and Best Novice in Group.

The Shetland Sheepdog, Sundark Salice owned by Caroline Le Poidevin was Group 1 in the Pastoral Group with the German Shepherd Dog, Chakona’s Hawaiian Dream belonging to Carol and David Turner going Group 2 and Best Veteran in Group. Rachel Martel’s Bearded Collie, Geliland Sea Chariot was Best Junior and Novice, Carol Pearce’s Shetland Sheepdog, Tonkory Gin-Fizz at Shalimar was Best Yearling and Bobby and Barbara Lawrence and they were Best Brace in Group with their German Shepherd Dogs.

The Utility Group was won by Louise Morgan’s Tibetan Terrier, Araki Vice Versa with Carol Smither’s Toy Poodle, Montana Leading Lady at Meantmore getting Group 2. Pauline and Louise Morgan’s Tibetan Terrier, Araki Mandora was Best Junior in Group. Best Veteran went to Idadoun Black n' Dreamy, Jean Thoume’s Miniature Poodle and she also won Best Brace with her Miniature Poodles.

The Hounds were first into the Sporting Group with Pamela and Stuart Mottershaw’s Whippet, Eeri Stormy Weather at Elangeni and handled by Marie-Claire Hannigan, Group 2 was their Afghan Hound, Barjoni Secret Desire for Elangeni. Barbara Sebire’s Miniature W/H Dachshund Kanix Karina at Bouvee was Best Puppy in Group and Annabel Le Page and Elisha Wilson’s Standard L/H Dachshund, Neropa Jetblack Jute was Reserve Puppy in Group. The Beagle, Timamso Amour at Birybarn owned by Sarah and Ryan Woodhouse was Best Junior and Novice in Group and Best Yearling was Ms S Le Noury’s Mini L/H Dachshund, Thelepees Mesdam Georgette. Best Veteran in Group went to Jennifa Collas’s Whippet, Nevedith Veefa Verve and Best Brace were the Miniature Short Haired Dachshund belonging to Marjorie Child-Thomas.

In the Gundog Group, Best in Group went to went to Ro and Nigel Cox’s Irish Setter Tiroen Taylormade and Lynn Ozanne’s English Springer Spaniel, Trimere True Style at Lyntonridge was Group 2 and Best Yearling in Group. Best Puppy in Group was Pam Smith’s Welsh Springer Spaniel, Tachwedd Tegan. Derryn De Carteret’s Cocker Spaniel, Shenmore Spruce at Derrindee won Best Junior in Group with Alison Battrick’s Labrador Retriever, Jancerie Gigi was Best Novice.

Best Veteran in Group was Pam Smith’s Cocker Spaniel, Bowiskey Out Of The Blue and Best Brace was Alison Battrick’s Labrador Retrievers.

Group 1 in the Terriers was Mark Fletcher and Angie Seedhouse’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Granitangel Red Giant, Russell Marett’s Cesky Terrier, Gayteckels Highflyer was Group 2. Adrian Marett’s Cesky Terrier, Pajanticks Zidane won best Veteran in Group.

The rings were then joined for the end of show judging and as Guernsey Kennel Club do things in reverse order; Mr Alf Wood stepped forward and judged Best Junior and winner of the BC Watson was Yvonne Windsor’s Yorkshire Terrier, Davonne’s Golden Illusion; Best Yearling was Lynne Ozanne’s English Springer Spaniel, Trimere True Style at Lyntonridge; Best Novice was Margaret Bayes’ Boxer, Docrema Mystic Meg

Mrs Rosemary Lord then came into the ring and awarded Best Veteran in show to Pauline and Louise Morgan’s Papillon, Blackpark Junior and Reserve Best Veteran in show to Jennifer Collas’s Whippet, Nevedith Veefa Verve; Best Brace in show went to Alison Battrick’s Labrador Retrievers.

Then it came to the turn of the Puppies and Best Puppy in show went to Barbara Sebire’s Miniature W/H Dachshund Kanix Karina at Bouvee with Reserve Best Puppy in show Yvonne Windsor’s Yorkshire Terrier, Davonne’s Stylish Impact

Finally, in came the Group winners and Best in show was awarded to Ro and Nigel Cox’s Irish Setter, Tiroen Taylormade, the second time this year this team have won this award, with Reserve Best in show going to Louise Morgan’s Tibetan Terrier, Araki Vice Versa.

A lively and successful dinner in the evening brought to a close an enjoyable day.
