A DERBYSHIRE writer's experience with her own ‘slightly crazy’ dog has provided inspiration for a new podcast play aimed at all dogs and dog owners.
The play, Paws on the Moors, is a humorous 25-minute podcast about the adventures of six dogs on the moorland in the famous Derbyshire peak district, and aims to educate dog owners about the importance of responsible dog behaviour, especially during bird nesting and lambing seasons.
Writer Pamela Butler from Middleton drew on her own experiences with her rescue collie Smudge, when it came to writing about the adventures of Barney, a young collie dog who is one of the main characters in the play.
Stephen Jenkinson, access advisor for the Kennel Club which supports the podcast, said: ‘This entertaining, informative approach gives people excellent advice about keeping their dogs happy and safe on the moors, whilst protecting rare birds and wildlife. A pet roaming off-lead at the wrong time or place can cause distress and serious injury for dogs, farm animals and wildlife alike.’
The Kennel Club and the charity Hearing Dogs For Deaf People helped with research for the play, while actors from the University of Derby Graduate Theatre voiced the dogs. The play can also be downloaded free from the Moors for the Future website at: www.moorsforthefuture.org.uk
