Owner fined for dog on dog attack

A DOG owner was fined £400 with £500 costs after his Rottweiler attacked another dog on open heath land. Stephen Westrope, from Attleborough, Norfolk, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a dog that was dangerously out of control in a public place on Roudham Heath, Attleborough in May.

Swaffham Magistrates' Court heard how he was walking three Rottweilers when one of them attacked and bit a Lurcher dog several times. The Lurcher was left with puncture wounds in its leg and back.

Breckland District Council brought the prosecution under Section 3 of the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act and its lawyer said it now means the dog has to be muzzled while out.

‘Allowing three large Rottweilers to roam freely in public was irresponsible and shows why it is important dog owners realise it is their duty to keep their dogs under control,’ he told the court.
