More legislation in Cumbria

POLICE COMMUNITY Support Workers in have joined up with Allerdale Council in Cumbria to warn dog owners that they risk fines if they fail to keep their pets under control.

Increasing pressure from the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act means that council officers can now give on-the-spot fines to owners who are believed to be acting irresponsibly. Support Workers have agreed to liaise with them to highlight possible problem areas. This will include people who fail to clean up after their dog has fouled.

Also recently announced by the Council are four new areas in which dogs must be kept on a lead: Salterbeck Cemetery, Salterbeck Reservoir, Moat Hill at Maryport and Cockermouth Cemetery and at the beginning of August, legislation banning dogs will be introduced to cover 40 enclosed children's play and recreation areas.
