Most people are aware of the need for human blood donors but not everyone realises dogs sometimes need emergency blood too.
One owner who does realise the importance is Sarah Morgan who registered her Rottweiler Fredie (Oakprides Apollo of Melaisey JW ShCM) as a donor. Fredie has now helped save the life of a fellow Rottie by donating blood at his local vets.
Dogs are usually sedated when donating blood but Fredie’s good temperament allowed just a simple numbing of the leg for the 25 minute procedure to be carried out.
