Eye scheme changes for Basenjis & Australian Shepherds

Following consultation with the relevant breed clubs the KC has announced that there will be two changes to the KC/BVA/ISDS Eye Scheme, effective from 1st July

Australian Shepherd Dogs will move onto Schedule A for the condition of hereditary cataract (HC). Results of examinations for breeds with conditions on Schedule A of the Eye Scheme are recorded on the Kennel Club database and are published.

The condition of persistent pupillary membrane (PPM) in the Basenji will move from Schedule A to Schedule B from 1st July 2007. It is hoped that this change will encourage more Basenji owners to screen their dogs.

Further information on the Eye Scheme is available from both the Kennel Club and the British Veterinary Association’s websites (www.thekennelclub.org.uk; www.bva.co.uk) or from the Health & Information Department of the Kennel Club via email info@thekennelclub.org.uk.
