The heavy rain earlier this week has forced the South Wales K A to move its general championship show to the Royal Berkshire Agricultural Showground at Newbury, the same venue used by Southern Counties CA show.
The end of June has seen unprecented amounts of rainfall with many areas of Britain receiving a month’s normal rain in less than 24 hours.
The badly hit areas included Monmonthshire whose River Usk tributaries border the ground.
Areas of Yorkshire were particularly badly hit last Monday when the rain storms where at their worst.
Two weeks ago saw heavy rain east of the Pennines swelling rivers to bursting point and many exhibitors travelling north to the Border Union show were delayed on the A1 near Catterick when the River Swale flooded the carriageway.
This week traffic chaos surrounded South Yorkshire when the M1 near Rotherham was closed because of the pressure on the dam of a 35 acre reservoir.
Speaking to OUR DOGS as we went to press secretary Mrs Isobell Dyke said, ‘Because of the freak weather we have been experiencing during June, our showground and caravan park at Usk are under two feet of water and completely unusable.
‘We are therefore moving the show to Newbury Showground (RG18 9QZ) just off junction 13 of the M4, being the only venue available to us at such short notice. This will be a basic, no frills show. We apologise to exhibitors, judges, stewards, trade stands, caravanners and visitors for the inconvenience this may cause. We will do our best to extend you a warm Welsh welcome.’ All exhibitors will receive a notice by post of the change.
The South Wales KA Show Dog of the Year event has been postponed until later date.
