David Smith, a 57 year old builder's merchant from Seaham, Co Durham was fined £2000 last week after admitting destroying sick or injured greyhounds on his allotment at £10 a time.

The charges he answered were not cruelty related but concerned 'disposing of waste without a permit' on unauthorised land.

Smith was also ordered to pay costs of £2000 to Durham Crown Court.
