A few things have changed the last year when it comes to showing your dogs in the Netherlands. And then especially when it comes to championship titles.
But first things first. Let’s start with the definition of classes. At many shows the baby-class has been introduced. This class is a class where dogs are allowed to compete from the age of 3 months till 6 months. So now the classes are as follow:
1) Baby Class:
3 to 6 months, dogs entered in this class do not compete for the CAC or BOB
2) Puppy Class :
6 to 9 months, dogs entered in this class do not compete for the CAC or BOB
3) Junior Class:
9 to 18 months, dogs entered in this class compete for the CAC and so BOB.
But at international shows they do not compete for the CACIB. When the dog wins it class graded excellent it also gains the Junior-CAC.
4) Intermediate Class :
15 to 24 months, dogs enter in this class compete for the CAC, CACIB and also BOB.
5) Open Class :
Open from 15 months, dogs entered in this class compete for the CAC, CACIB and also the BOB.
6) Working Class:
Open from 15 months, dogs entered in this class compete for the CAC, CACIB and also the BOB. To be able to enter this class you need to send a copy of an official acknowledged FCI working test.
7) Champion Class :
Open from 15 months, dogs entered in this class compete for the CAC, CACIB and also the BOB. To be able to enter this class you need to send a copy of an official acknowledged FCI championship title (won after the age of 15 months).
8) Veteran Class:
Open from 8 years, dogs entered in this class compete for the CAC and so BOB. But at international shows they do not compete for the CACIB. When the dog wins it class graded excellent it gains a point towards it’s Veteran Championship title.
How to become Dutch Show Champion!!!
In order to qualify for the title Dutch Champion your dog has to obtain 4 CAC ( = Championship
title) points in total. This title can only be awarded to those dogs registered in FCI acknowledged studbooks, which registration should represent at least one generation.
The CAC points can be obtained as follows:
One point:
a CAC obtained at a national show; a reserve CAC obtained at a breed club’s
championship show, a reserve CAC obtained at a show behind an already Dutch Champion.
Two points:
a CAC obtained at the Winner in Amsterdam, a CAC obtained at a breed club’s championship show.
A reserve CAC obtained at either a national show or the Winner is valued at a quarter of a point. Only one out of the four obligatory points can be shattered in four quarters.
Please note: if your dogs has obtained both the CAC at the breed club’s championship show and the Winner in Amsterdam, only one of these CAC’s will count for two points. The other will be valued as one.
On the day of obtaining the last (reserve) CAC your dog must be at least 27 months of age. If your dog will qualify for the title before this age, obtaining a reserve CAC after reaching the aforementioned age will be sufficient. The (reserve) CAC’s must be awarded by at least two different judges.
As soon as your dog has obtained the four obligatory points you can apply for the Dutch Championship title. This title will not be issued automatically!
Please be informed that your application should be accompanied by:
- a photocopy of the dog’s pedigree
- photocopies of the (reserve) CAC’s obtained
- photocopies of the applicable brown coloured exhibitor’s card (= “Inschrijvingsbewijs”)

- The three Junior-CAC’s must be awarded by at least two different judges.
As soon as your dog has obtained the three obligatory Junior-CAC’s you can apply for the Dutch Youth Championship title. This title will not be issued automatically!
Please be informed that your application should be accompanied by:
- a photocopy of the dog’s pedigree
- photocopies of the Junior-CAC’s obtained
