The Kennel Club Annual Report 2006/07
Artificial Insemination

The requirements for registration of litters produced by artificial insemination were revised during the year. The new requirements are that the donor dog must have sired at least one litter naturally; AI may be used on maiden bitches, but not if they were the product of artificial insemination themselves; a bitch that is the product of artificial insemination must have produced at least one litter naturally. Semen from dogs alive and living in the UK may not be used, with the exception of Irish Wolfhounds where dogs over eight and half years may be used. Semen from dead dogs may now be used without having to wait until the point at which the dog would have been fifteen years of age. Provided that all of these conditions are met, and the insemination uses non-surgical methods, no prior permission is required from the Kennel Club, however an AI form must still be submitted with the registration. Registration of all litters produced by artificial insemination using surgical insemination will remain at the discretion of the General Committee.
