Over the last year, the Breed Standards and Stud Book Sub-Committee (BSSB) reviewed the standards of the Hovawart, Neapolitan Mastiff, Shar Pei, Keeshond, Australian Cattle Dog, Finnish Lapphund, Great Dane, Dalmatian, Large Munsterlander and Whippet, and amendments to all of these are now in place. Furthermore, new Interim Breed Standards have been issued for the Mexican Hairless, Lagotto Romagnolo and Eurasier.
Whilst no new breeds have been recognised recently, the process for recognition has undergone major review with the aim of ensuring that new breeds on the Kennel Club register are well established in their country of origin and that they have a solid base in the UK from which to develop. The process for restricting colour registrations has also undergone review. The Kooikerhondje transferred from the Imported Breed Register to the Breed Register in January 2006.
