The Kennel Club Annual Report 2006/07
Kennel Club Accredited Breeder Scheme

2006 has seen significant enhancements to the Accredited Breeder Scheme and a continuation of its growth. New health screening requirements and recommendations have been introduced following extensive discussions with all of the breed clubs and councils. The newly appointed Accredited Breeder Adviser began visiting members of the scheme during 2006. A variety of establishments have been visited and some memberships have been withdrawn or suspended as a result. Where a breeder is suspended, they are revisited before their membership can be considered for reinstatement. This ensures that the requirements of the scheme are met and helps individuals improve their breeding practices and facilities.

The Puppy Sales Register (PSR) now flags Accredited Breeders’ litters and prioritises them at the top of each list. Links on the PSR also allow visitors to find out more about the scheme, which provides a valuable promotional and educational tool for prospective puppy owners. A system of Accolades, to illustrate the experience and level of involvement of individual scheme members, including their success in the show ring, has also been introduced.
