Launch of revamped dogs’ home

International judge Dorothy Gregson-Wood will be at the launch of the newly refurbished Cheshire Dogs’ Home this Sunday, courtesy of a multi-million pound revamp.

The Grappenhall centre will celebrate the opening of its £3m new wing and has also invited footballers Richard Dunne and Micah Richards and TV vet Trude Mostue.

Funded mainly by legacies and donations, the new wing is a pioneering venture comprising the UK's first purpose-built canine maternity unit, a puppy crèche, grooming and relaxation room and a canine special needs unit which includes specially designed kennels for greyhounds.

Brian Maltby, general manager said: ‘I’ve been working with dogs for most of my life so it’s really rewarding to have helped pioneer something like this. The new facilities are wonderful and will go a long way to helping the dogs that come here.’

The official opening takes place at 1.30pm and more information is available at www.cheshiredogshome.org.uk.
