AKC announce judges for the Eukanuba world challenge


The Eukanuba World Challenge is scheduled to take place on Sunday 2nd December at Long Beach, California, hosted at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championships and sponsored by Eukanuba. There are 40 Top winning dogs selected from around the world (37 from FCI countries, 1 from the UK, 1 from USA and 1 from Canada) which will be competing for the unique Eukanuba World Challenge Winner title along with the $10,000 prize money.

Welcoming all of these international dogs and fanciers via the Eukanuba World Challenge adds a whole other level of excitement and is a wonderful opportunity for the world’s canine community to come together for the betterment of breeds. The AKC/Eukanuba National Championship has always been a one-of-a-kind event, but with the addition of this exciting special attraction it will truly be world-class.’

The judging panel for this international event has been carefully selected by the American Kennel Club. Judging the Europe & South Africa section will be Mr Hiroshi Kamisato from Japan. Mr Kamisato began his career as a veterinary student at 18 years old. This is when he began his life long involvement with dogs. As an exhibitor of American Cocker Spaniels since 1962 he became a successful breeder of many breeds including Great Danes, Scottish Terriers, Maltese, Italian Greyhounds and currently breeds Japanese Chins. In 1986 he was awarded the Japanese Kennel Club Top Breeder Award and again in 1999 when the Japanese Kennel Club celebrated their 50th anniversary. His judging career started in 1979 becoming an FCI judge in 1984. A member of the Japanese Kennel Club since 1987 serving as Secretary General & Executive Director until May 2006 during which time Mr Kamisato was also an FCI Member of the Executive Committee of the Asian Section and a member of the FCI General Committee.

Judging the Asia & Oceania section is Mr Miguel Angel Martinez from Argentina. Mr Martinez is an FCI all breed judge. A Professor of many different canine subjects he regularly lectures in Latin America. He was President of Federacion Cinologica Argentina 1987-1991. He holds many other official Presidential posts including that of the America and Caribbean Section of the FCI, the Magyar Friends’ Association, the South American Technical Commision and the Council of Judges of FCA. He is also a member of the General Committee of the FCI and FCA and a member of the Commission on Canines of the Sociedad Rural Argentina. Mr Martinez, who holds many honorable Presidential posts with other Canine related organisations, is a well-known and respected judge, officiating across all continents in many countries including at two World Dog Shows (Argentina in 1993 and in 1996 in Vienna).

Judging the Americas and Canada section is Mr Luis Miguel Pinto Teixeria from Portugal a well-known breeder of German Shepherds, Irish Setters, Boxers, Dachshunds, Cocker Spaniels and Golden Retrievers. Mr Pinto Teixeria, a recognised judge in Portugal since 1979, FCI all breeds since 1985, has judged in 65 different countries across five continents including officiating at many World Dog Shows since Madrid in 1982 through to Argentina in 2005 and Poznan (Poland) in 2006. He has judged The Champion of Champions in 10 European Countries and in South Africa and has judged extensively in the UK and in the USA. He has been a member of the Portuguese Kennel Club since 1968 and Chairman of the Board from 1989-1990 as well as being the President of the judges committee from 1990-1996. He has also served as Vice-President of the Club.

The Eukanuba World Challenge Winner will ultimately be selected by FCI Vice-President Mr Karl Reisinger. Mr Reisinger's interest into the world of dogs began as a breeder of Boxers, Dobermanns, Rottweilers, Beagles, Labradors, Border Terriers and Dachshunds. He shares his wealth of experience educating cynologists and lecturing at universities and congresses. A judge of Dog Shows and Field Trials for some 40 years, he has judged across Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia including at many World and European Dog Shows. He has been a General Committee member of the FCI since 1984, being their Vice-President since 1995 and has served as the President of the Austrian Kennel Club for 15 years. Mr Reisinger will select the ultimate Eukanuba World Challenge Winner from the winner of each of the three sections.
All four well-known high calibre judges have a wealth of experience in the world of dogs and this should prove to be a very exciting international event.
