Mr Allan Harper
Friends and family gathered on Thursday 19th June for the funeral of Mr Allan Harper at Daldowie Crematorium.
Although Allan was involved in Gordon Setter Club’s it was through Scottish Breeds I knew him best. I first met Allan at the Scottish Kennel Club working on the gate, and then when I joined Scottish Breeds he became a good friend and was always there with a helping hand.
Allan joined Scottish Breeds Committee in 1974 and one of his first jobs was as trophy steward, in 1981 he was elected as Breed Representative for Gordon Setters, this he held until 1985 when he was made Vice Chairman.
1988 saw Allan elected as Chairman, a position he carried out with vigour and fairness, allowing everyone to have their say without repeating. In 2002 due somewhat to his illness he stepped down as chairman and was elected Vice President. After Major Logan’s death in 2005 he took the office of President and attended most of the meetings in an advisory status.
I’m sure I speak on behalf of the Committee when I say he will be missed as a friend and colleague, and the Chairman on behalf of the Committee give Moira their condolences.
