Jack Russell saved

A DOG has been rescued after being trapped more than 4ft underground for four days. Two-year-old jack Russell Terrier Jack fell into a badger sett while chasing a rabbit on Newbold Comyn, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, on Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews from Warwickshire and the West Midlands used specialist searching equipment to find and free the dog.

His owner Vicky Martin said everyone was ‘thrilled’ to see the Jack Russell, who seemed to have escaped uninjured.

Ms Martin's partner Gary Middleton, who had been walking Jack when he vanished underground, kept vigil by the hole in case the terrier emerged.

Mr Middleton contacted the council's dog warden, who then contacted the RSPCA who in turn suggested speaking to the fire service.

Hi-tech search cameras were also used in the rescue operation and pushed down into the sett to try and find the terrier.
