School chidren show they care

Higher Lane Pupils

Higher Lane CrestAs part of its theme on animals the children of Higher Lane Our of School Club is Whitefield, Manchester have been learning how to knit with play worker Ann Jarvis.

Wondering what to do with all the knitted squares, which had been patiently sewn together by Ann, the school decided to contact Muriel Bird, of Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, who came to visit the out of school club and gave a talk about the sanctuary. She was delighted with the children’s interest and generosity shown towards the animals. the children have also been donating pocket money and have raised enough money to sponsor three dogs.

Staff, parents, relatives, neighbours and friends have also clubbed in, sending food, old towels, bedding and cushions.

Bleakholt held an open day on Sunday 13th July and Liz Roberts and Jane Collins, managers of the out of school club, went along to present Bleakholt with all the donations dogs.

The children will also be able to visit the pets at weekend and during school holidays.
