Obituary - Daphne Gilpin
It was with great sadness to receive a telephone call from Daphne’s Daughter, Anne of her mother’s death on Thursday 26th June.
I first met Daphne when she invited my wife, myself and a number of other Whippet friends to one of her delightful dinner parties.
She started showing Whippets in the late 1960’s and joined the Midland Whippet Club at the same time.
Her first Whippet was Hillbroad Lucia, bred by Mrs Plens in July 1964, she bred her first litter in 1968, 2 dogs and 2 bitches.
In 1972 she was invited to be a member of the Midland Whippet Club Committee, rising through the ranks over the years to Vice Chairman, 1975, Chairman, 1979, President, 1988 and following her resignation as President, a honorary life member.
She always took her committee duties seriously and worked tirelessly with the Committee and Officers of the club.
In the early days of her committe duties she organised lunches and refreshments for judges lunches, and exhibitors, using her catering expertise.
As well as being involved in the Midland Whippet Club, she was Secretary of Greyhound Club for a number of years and a founder member of the Hound Club of East Anglia.
As you can see from the above, she was very involved in the dogs world and I am amazed how she managed to fit everything in.
She will be missed sadly by all of those associates that knew her, we send our condolences to her daughters Ruth, Anne and Trish and her grandchildren.
