After Blackpool Ch Show, show team Habiba, Robert Dunlop and Stuart Payne, had something to shout about after equalling the breed record in Chinese Cresteds with their homebred Ch Habiba Causin A Commotion (Conrad), who took his 29th CC on the day.
Not only do Robert and Stuart succeed in Chinese Cresteds, but also do well with their Pugs.
Stuart told OUR DOGS about the start of team Habiba and their success over the years.‘Our first dog was a boxer male from Mary Hambleton in 1997 (where we first met pugs), we were told to show him and a female followed shortly after. It was after while showing that we came across Cresteds. We were mesmerized by these strange hairless dogs and started looking into them. Our first Crested arrived from the Blandora kennel in March 1998, followed shortly by a second (you may see a pattern starting here!!!). We took them to some open shows and a couple of local Ch shows, Robert was showing the Cresteds and I felt left out. I was drawn to the Briards and also the comical little Pugs that I had seen at Mary Hambleton's. I decided on a Pug and got in touch with Mary. Our first Pug male arrived at the end of 1998, followed shortly after by a girl!!!
‘We went back to Blandora for a show Crested and came back with two, a dog and a bitch. The two Cresteds and the Pug boy made their Ch show debut at Manchester 1999, which was when we first started campaigning dogs at the Ch shows.
‘Our first CC came at East of England in 2001 with the Crested Moonswift Soiux Warrior, he also went on to G3. Our first Champion was the Pug Ch Marbelton Move Over Darling to Habiba, made up at Bath 2002. Our first Crested Champion being Ch Habiba Legally Blonde, made up at Windsor 2002. She went on to win 22 CC's with many group placings, equalling the bitch record and being Top Crested 02 and 03.
‘In 2004, we had a very special year with the Cresteds, at Crufts under Andrew Brace, we won the RDCC with Habiba Rock Star, then we won the BCC and BOB with his sister Habiba Shake A Tail Feather. They were nine months, attending their 2nd show!
‘The next month our other puppy H Pussy Galore won the CC and BIS at the CCC of GB Ch show with her dad (Ch H Take It Like A Man) taking the DCC. CC's also that year with Legally Blonde and our puppy H Caught In The Act took two CC's from puppy and at Midland Counties Causing A Commotion won his first CC from puppy. Ch Habiba Starlight Express also won CC's for us in 2004 and gained his title. He is owned by Julie Hockold. This all contributed to us being the Top Crested and Top Toy Breeders and 4th Top Breeders overall in the Our Dogs Top Breeder Competition.
‘We have so far had a total of 13 Champion's. Ten Cresteds (nine home bred) and three Pugs (one home bred). Also top Crested breeders for the last five years (03-07) and top Crested 02, 03, 06, 07.
‘In 2006 we were also top Pug with Ch Habiba All Fired Up. At Darlington last year we win our 100th CC. All this in just over six years! We are really amazed.
‘Our current show team are, Causing A Commotion and his children Spitting Feathers, Shake Wiggle Wiggle (brother and sister), The Great Pretender and Haute Couture (all with 1CC) and the Pug, Mind Your Manners (All Fired Up Daughter) with 2 CC's.
‘As for judging our breeds, we are thrilled to have appointments in 2009, 10 and 11 for both breeds.
Aside to the showing and breeding programme, both Stuart and Robert play a big part in the breed clubs too. Stuart, is the secretary of the Scottish Pug Dog Club and the Chinese Crested Club of Great Britain. Robert is the secretary of Catrine Canine Club.
