Search for Uk’s top Truffle Hounds!

The UK’s first Truffle Hunting Championships take place in Hampshire on August 17 2008 – and organiser Marion Dean is hoping for a high entry! Marion and business partner Dr. Paul Thomas are experts in the field of cultivating truffles and training dogs to find them. The sport is an ancient skill, and widely practised in a range of European countries.

Marion runs Truffle Hunting courses at her home in Hampshire, while Paul is a renowned name in the field of truffle cultivation. The aim of the Truffle Hunting Championships is to get dogs to demonstrate their scenting skills, and the event is open to all breeds over the age of six months. Competing dogs will receive points for their aptitude, endeavour and achievement and, of course, there will also be an opportunity for some fun, with a charity event taking place on the day! Novice truffle hunting dogs are positively welcomed and encouraged.

Supported by James Wellbeloved, the event promises to be a great day out for anyone with a dog with a ‘nose’ (Labradors, anyone?!) and for foodies alike.

Entry forms are available from Marion Dean at training@plantationsystems.com or by phoning 01256 478388. Full entry details and scoring systems are explained on the form available from Marion. All competitors and spectators must have a pre-booked car pass, which again is available from Marion.
