Kennel Club of Jersey Winter Championship Show 2008


The Kennel Club of Jersey has held their first Championship Show of the year at the Royal Jersey Showground.

Three judges came over; Mrs Margaret Wildman Everton judged the Utility, Working and Pastoral Groups; Miss Dianna Spavin the Toy and Hound Groups and Mr Mark Hamer the Gundog and Terrier Groups. Our Championship Shows have Challenge Certificates on offer at Group level and three of these are needed for a dog to be made up as a Jersey Champion.

The following were Best of Breeds in the Utility Group, Sarah Cooper’s Shih Tzu, Harropine Purplerain at Forepaws; Carol Smither’s Toy Poodle, Meantmore Leading Lady at Meantmore; Brian and Sally Rousseau’s Bulldog, Shiloh High & Mighty at Dimkas; Bob and June Shorto’s Tibetan Spaniel, Mulltye Kit-Si; Peter Walker’s Lhasa Apso, Khalila Justin Credible for Petwalk; Jean Thoume’s Miniature Poodle, Idadoun Black’n’ Dreamy; Rachel Le Masurier and David Knight’s Tibetan Terrier, Araki Wizard Of Ahhs and Marion Dingle’s French Bulldog, Inyawood Miss Brodie. Winning the Challenge Certificate was the Lhasa Apso with the French Bulldog getting the Reserve. Group 3 went to the Miniature Poodle and the Toy Poodle was Group 4. Best Puppy and Novice in Group went to Carol Smither’s Toy Poodle, Meantmore Loiter In The Wings whilst Rachel Le Masurier and David Knight’s Tibetan Terrier, Araki Wizard Of Ahhs was Best Junior in Group and Peter Walker’s Lhasa Apso, Ch Ragoosa Just Jolly at Oraysha was Best Veteran in Group.
The Working Group was won by Margaret Bayes’s Boxer, Docrema Millionaire Pd’H who won his third Challenge Certificate; he is the first locally bred dog to be made a Jersey Champion (subject to KCJ Committee approval). Sue Warn’s Siberian Husky, Jsy Ch Lapatka Spirit Wolf took the Reserve Challenge Certificate. Lena and Jake Smale’s Bernese Mountain Dog, Vellbern Varlina was Group 3 and also Best Puppy, Junior and Novice in Group.

The Samoyed was the first in for the Pastoral Group with the Best of Breed going to Louise Skittrall’s Samoyed, Novaskaya Moonlite Spirit. Other Best of Breeds were Bobby and Barbara Lawrence’s Penwartha Apache Arrow; Carol Pearce’s Border Collie, Tonkory Gin Fizz; Collette Allen’s Rough Collie, Samhaven In Tune with Ribans; Valery Johnson’s Shetland Sheepdog Myndoc Blue Mercedes at Valdug; David and Carol Turner’s Australian Shepherd, Am Ch Harmonyhill Satin Funnycideman at Chakona; Roz Cooper’s Tervueren Belgian Shepherd Dog, Vapresto Darcy Daimler for Kumataz. Winning the Challenge Certificate, his third, was the Australian Shepherd ( a new Jersey Champion subject to KCJ Committee approval) with the Reserve Challenge Certificate going to the German Shepherd. Group 3 was the Rough Collie and the Shetland Sheepdog was Group 4. Valery Johnson’s Shetland Sheepdog Mohnesee Georgia Brown at Valdug was Best Puppy in Group with Rachel Martel’s Bearded Collie Vilmorin Silhouette Reserve; Puppy Group 3 was Mackay’s Border Collie, Foxbarton Gran Cru and Bennett’s Alsatian, Conadrew Camilla of Jasandor. Paul Winch’s Rough Collie, Uffspring Unbelievable took Best Junior and Best Novice in Group. Best Veteran in Group was Bobby and Barbara Lawrence’s Penwartha Silver Shadow and they were also successful with their Alsatians in the Brace handled by Kevin Cochrane.

Best of Breeds in the Toy Ring were Fiona Officer’s Bichon Frise, Honeyvale Neige Emiette; Peter and Angela Goguelin’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Ashtelle Corbierre; Sue Curwood’ s Japanese Chin, Yama Tiara; Pauline Morgan’s Papillon, Tutyak Brodie; Fiona Officer’s Chinese Crested, Shipstone I Got Rhythm; Thelma Alsford’s Pomeranian, Thelbern The Tangerine Man; Pat Dale and Pat Michel’s Pekingese, Ksarina Designers Dream P d’H and Yvonne Windsor’s Yorkshire Terrier, Davonne’s Golden Illusion. Winning the Challenge Certificate was the Pomeranian and the Reserve Challenge Certificate and Best Veteran in Group went to the Pekingese. Group 3 was the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Yorkshire Terrier was Group 4. Julian Schofield’s Pomeranian, Thelbern Step In Time with Rudoli was Best Puppy in Group and Pauline Morgan’s Papillon, Serenglade Hot Toddy was Reserve Best Puppy. Best Junior in Group was Thelma Alsford’s Pomeranian, Thelbern The Role Model and Best Novice was Pat Dale and Pat Michel’s Pekingese, Yakee Equal Opportunity at Ksarina.

Best of Breeds in the Hound Group were Lisa Goodall’s Wire Haired Dachshund, Gayteckles Seaexpectation at Renlott P d’H; Peter Walker’s Whippet, Barnesmore Say No More with Petwalk; Rob and Kath Gilluley’s Norwegian Elkhound, Bowerhinton Bonanza; Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Afghan Hound, Int/Lux/Ger Ch Jacosta Black In A Flash to Elangeni (IMP) and Barbara Sebire’s Mini Wire Haired Dachshund, Bouvee Brilliant. Winning the Challenge Certificate was the Whippet with the Reserve Challenge Certificate going to the Afghan Hound. Group 3 went to the Norwegian Elkhound and the Mini Wire Haired Dachshund was Group 4. Best Puppy, Junior and Novice in Group was Peter Walker’s Whippet, Cobyco Choice Occasion for Petwalk. Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Afghan Hound, Aust/NZ Ch Moti Mahal Star of Jhanzi (IMP) was Best Veteran in Group whilst Fiona Officer’s Whippet’s were Best Brace.

In the Terrier Ring the Best of Breeds were Mark Fletcher and Angie Seedhouse’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Granitangel Red Giant; Angela Steel’s Bull Terrier, Bullyview Poetry in Motion; Jamie Laffoley and Steven Edwards’ Scottish Terrier, Yeloffal Rough Trade; Russell and Christine Marett’s Cesky Terrier, Malsville Lincoln Ridley and Peter Walker’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Naughty But Nice at Kopykats. The Challenge Certificate went to the young Kerry Blue Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier got the Reserve Challenge Certifcate. Group 3 went to the Bull Terrier and Scottish Terrier was Group 4. Best Puppy in Group went to Mark Fletcher and Angie Seedhouse’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Granitangel Zircon and Rachel Phillips’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Berwickonian Bewitched was Best Junior and Novice in Group. Best Veteran was Russell and Christine Marett’s Cesky Terrier, Malsville Lincoln Ridley and they were also successful in the Brace with their Cesky Terriers.

The American Cocker Spaniels started the Gundog Group with Best of Breed going to Debbie Houghton and Enid Le Gresley’s American Cocker Spaniel, Fielgar Majestic Quest. Other Best of Breeds were Kate Davidouska’s Labrador Retriever, Thurbajen’s Just The Job; Sandra and David Bouchere’s Tenfield Raceway; Derryn De Carteret’s Cocker Spaniel, Shenmore Spruce at Derrindee; Ro and Nigel Cox’s Irish Setter, Tiroen Taylormade P d’H and Christianne Creber's Weimaraner, Oakmoreton Ptarmigan. The Challenge Certificate went to the Irish Setter with the Reserve Challenge Certificate going to the Weimaraner. Group 3 was the Labrador Retriever and the Golden Retriever was Group 4. Best Puppy in Group went to Ali Battrick’s Labrador Retriever, Rocheby Blue Orchid for Jancerie. Ro and Nigel Cox’s Irish Setter, Tiroen True Blue was Best Junior and Novice in Group, they were also successful in Brace with their two youngsters who were handled by Kath Gilluley. Best Veteran went to Debbie Houghton and Enid Le Gresley’s American Cocker Spaniel, Fielgar Tansation.

The rings were then joined and Mrs Margaret Wildman stepped forward to judge Best in Show and gave it to David and Carol Turner’s Australian Shepherd, Am Ch Harmonyhill Satin Funnycideman at Chakona with Reserve Best in Show going to Peter Walker’s Lhasa Apso, Khalila Justin Credible for Petwalk handled by Johnathan Dyer; Best Puppy in Show went to Julian Schofield’s Pomeranian, Thelbern Step In Time with Rudoli with Carol Smither’s Toy Poodle, Meantmore Loiter In The Wings. Best Junior in Show went to Ro and Nigel Cox’s Irish Setter, Tiroen True Blue with Pat Dale and Pat Michel’s Pekingese, Yakee Equal Opportunity at Ksarina. Best Veteran and Vintage in Show went to Peter Walker’s Lhasa Apso Ch Ragoosa Just Jolly at Oraysha and Bobby and Barbara Lawrence’s Penwartha Silver Shadow won Reserve Best Veteran in Show. Bobby and Barbara were also successful with their Brace of Alsatians which was ably handled by Kevin Cochrane.

Miss Dianna Spavin then stepped forward and awarded the Piggy Bank Stakes to John and Simone Moulin’s Alsatian, Penwartha Christmas Star. The Handling Classes were judged by Peter Walker and winning the 6-11 years was David Knight and the 12-16 years was Sophie Le Bon who was also the overall winner. Russell Marett won the Senior Handling.

A successful Dinner was held in the evening with the principle winners being awarded their certificates by the judges. It was presided over by the Kennel Club of Jersey’s new President, Steven Edwards. Date of next show is Saturday 3rd May at the RJA & HS.
