Irish Setter tops Jersey’s Spring show


The Kennel Club of Jersey held its second Championship Show of the year at the Royal Jersey Showground.

Three judges came over from the UK, Mrs Brenda Banbury who judged Gundogs and Terriers, Mrs Jill Peak the Hounds and Toys and Mr Ron Parkes the Utility, Pastoral and Working Groups. Our Championship Shows have Challenge Certificates on offer at Group level and three of these are needed for a dog to be made up as a Jersey Champion.

The Golden Retrievers started the Gundog Group with Best of Breed going to Sandra and David Bouchere’s Tenfield Raceway. Other Best of Breeds were Ro and Nigel Cox’s Irish Setter, Tiroen Taylormade P d’H; Alison Battrick’s Labrador Retriever, Jancerie Buttercup; Debbie Houghton and Enid Le Gresley’s American Cocker Spaniel, Fielgar Majestic Quest; Derryn De Carteret’s Cocker Spaniel, Shenmore Spruce at Derrindee; Martin’s Clumber Spaniel, Jubilwell Rebel Alliance; Pam Smith’s Welsh Springer Spaniel, Tachwedd Tegan; Christianne Creber's Weimaraner, Oakmoreton Ptarmigan; David and Carol Turner’s Pointer, Clamerkin Come Closer to Chakona; Sarah Spurrier’s Flat Coated Retriever, Woodavens Ziggy and Derryn De Carteret’s English Springer Spaniel, Lyntonridge Loyalty Card at Derrindee. The Challenge Certificate, his third went to the Irish Setter making him a Jersey Champion (Subject to KCJ Committee approval). The Reserve Challenge Certificate went to the Weimaraner and Group 3 was the Golden Retriever. The Flat Coat Retriever was Group 4 and Best Puppy and Junior in Group. Reserve Best Puppy in Group went to Alison Battrick’s Labrador Retriever, Rocheby Blue Orchid for Jancerie and Puppy Group 3 was V Heaume’s Cocker Spaniel, Arwilfa Tri Surprise for Francfief. Best Novice in Group was Andrew Baudains Labrador Retriever, Rocheby Brigadoon at Beauvoir and Best Veteran was Lucy Baudains Labrador Retriever, Witherford Bluebell at Beauvoir. Best Brace in Group went to Ro and Nigel Cox’s young Irish Setters, Tiroen Take My Breath Away JW and Tiroen True Blue handled by Kath Gillulley.

In the Terrier ring the Best of Breeds were Angela Steel’s Bull Terrier, Bullyview Poetry in Motion; Tom and Ella Stewart’s Border Terrier, Bramblebee Little Big Man, handled by their son Corey; Mark Fletcher and Angie Seedhouse’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Granitangel Zircon; Russell Marett’s Cesky Terrier, Gayteckels Highflyer and Peter Walker’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Naughty But Nice at Kopykats. The Challenge Certificate went to the Kerry Blue Terrier and the Cesky Terrier got the Reserve Challenge Certificate. The young Staffordshire Bull Terrier was Group 3 and Best Puppy in Group and the Bull Terrier was Group 4. Reserve Best Puppy was Tom and Ella Stewart’s Border Terrier, Trawets Bella Ragazza, handled by their son Corey. Best Junior and Novice in Group was Mark Fletcher and Angie Seedhouse’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Granitangel Rough Diamond. Best Veteran was Russell and Christine Marett’s Cesky Terrier, Malsville Lincoln Ridley and they were also successful in the Brace with their Cesky Terriers.

Best of Breeds in the Hound Group were Violet Gorin’s Borzoi, Zovertoff Zoran; Annabelle Le Page’s Mini Long Haired Dachshund, Willowheath Tattered Reams de Thelepees; Lisa Goodall’s Wire Haired Dachshund, Gayteckles Seaexpectation at Renlott P d’H; Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Whippet, Barnesmore Let It Be for Elangeni; Rob and Kath Gilluley’s Norwegian Elkhound, Bowerhinton Bonanza; Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Afghan Hound, Int/Lux/Ger Ch Jacosta Black In A Flash to Elangeni (IMP); Annabelle Le Page’s Long Haired Dachshund, Neropa Jet Black Jute Avec Thelepes and Christianne Creber’s Hamiltonstovare; Amyandas Its My Party. Winning the Challenge Certificate was the Whippet with the Reserve Challenge Certificate and Best Veteran in Group going to the Afghan Hound. Group 3 went to the Norwegian Elkhound and the Wire Haired Dachshund was Group 4. Best Puppy in Group went to Peter Walker’s Cobyco Choice Occasion for Petwalk who was also Best Junior and Novice in Group and Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Whippet’s were Best Brace.

The Bichon Frise was first in for the Toy Ring with Fiona Officer’s Bichon Frise, Honeyvale Neige Emiette taking Best of Breed. Other Best of Breeds were Peter and Angela Goguelin’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Ashtelle Corbierre; Julian Schofield’s Pomeranian, Thelbern Bold As Brass at Rudoli; Pat Dale and Pat Michel’s Pekingese, Yakee Equal Opportunity at Ksarina and Pauline Morgan’s Papillon, Tutyak Brodie. Winning the Challenge Certificate was the Pomeranian and the Reserve Challenge Certificate went to the Bichon Frise. Group 3 was the Pekingese and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was Group 4. Julian Schofield’s Pomeranian, Thelbern Step In Time with Rudoli was Best Puppy in Group and Pauline Morgan’s Papillon, Serenglade Silver Surfer was Reserve Best Puppy. Thelma Alsford’s Pomeranian, Thelbern The Role Model was Best Junior in Group and Pat Dale and Pat Michel’s Ksarina Designers Dream P d’H was Best Veteran in Group.
In the Pastoral Group, the Best of Breeds were David and Carol Turner’s Australian Shepherd, Am Ch Harmonyhill Satin Funnycideman at Chakona; Bobby and Barbara Lawrence’s Alsatian, Penwartha Under Fire; Dianne Taylor and Freda Le Page’s Border Collie, Westirene Bonny Belle; Collette Allen’s Rough Collie, Samhaven In Tune with Ribans; Collette Allen’s Shetland Sheepdog, Rannerdale The Aristocrat with Ribans; Rachel Martel’s Bearded Collie Vilmorin Silhouette and Simpson and Mackie’s Belgian Shepherd (Tervueren), Hawksflight Inca’s Quest. Winning the Challenge Certificate was the Rough Collie with the Reserve Challenge Certificate going to the Alsatian. Group 3 was the Belgian Shepherd (Tervueren) and the Australian Shepherd was Group 4. Best Puppy and Junior in Group was Rachel Martel’s Bearded Collie Vilmorin Silhouette with Collette Allen’s Shetland Sheepdog, Rannerdale The Aristocrat with Ribans getting Puppy Group2 and Best Novice in Group; Puppy Group 3 was David and Carol Turner’s Australian Shepherd, Ozzypool Run For Your Money for Chakona and Puppy Group 4 was Carla Mackay’s Border Collie, Foxbarton Gran Cru. Best Veteran in Group was Bobby and Barbara Lawrence’s Penwartha Silver Shadow and they were also successful with their Alsatians in the Brace handled by Kevin Cochrane.

The following were Best of Breeds in the Utility Group, Brian and Sally Rousseau’s Bulldog, Shiloh High & Mighty at Dimkas; Peter Walker’s Lhasa Apso, Khalila Justin Credible for Petwalk; Rachel Le Masurier and David Knight’s Tibetan Terrier, Araki Wizard Of Ahhs; Sarah Cooper’s Shih Tzu, Harropine New York City Boy at Zafonic; Bob and June Shorto’s Tibetan Spaniel, Mulltye Kit-Si; Carol Smither’s Toy Poodle, Meantmore Loiter In The Wings; Jean Thoume’s Miniature Poodle, Idadoun Black’n’ Dreamy; Kath and Rob Bisson’s Japanese Spitz, Leymun Kami Tako and Marion Dingle’s French Bulldog, Inyawood Miss Brodie. Winning the Challenge Certificate was the Bulldog with the Lhasa Apso getting the Reserve. Group 3 and Best Puppy, Junior and Novice in Group went to the Toy Poodle and the Shih Tzu was Group 4. Jean Thoume’s Miniature Poodle, Idadoun Black’n’ Dreamy was Best Veteran in Group and Peter Walker was Best Brace in Group with his Lhasa Apso’s.

The Working Group was won by Margaret Bayes’s Boxer, Jsy Ch Docrema Millionaire Pd’H who won his fourth Challenge Certificate; Sue Warn’s Siberian Husky, Jsy Ch Lapatka Spirit Wolf took the Reserve Challenge Certificate. Caroline Gorin’s Giant Schnauzer, Foxwood Hugo Boss was Group 3 and Best Novice in Group.

The rings were then joined and Mrs Brenda Banbury stepped forward to judge Best in Show and gave it to Ro and Nigel Cox’s homebred Irish Setter, Jsy Ch Tiroen Taylormade P d’H* with Reserve Best in Show going to Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Whippet, Barnesmore Let It Be for Elangeni. Best Puppy in Show went to Sarah Spurrier’s Flat Coated Retriever, Woodavens Ziggy with Rachel Martel’s Bearded Collie Vilmorin Silhouette getting Reserve Best Puppy in Show. Best Junior in Show went to Thelma Alsford’s Pomeranian, Thelbern The Role Model; Best Novice in Show was Carol Smither’s Toy Poodle, Meantmore Loiter In The Wings; Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Afghan Hound, Int/Lux/Ger Ch Jacosta Black In A Flash to Elangeni (IMP) was Best Veteran in Show whilst Ro and Nigel Cox’s Irish Setters, Tiroen Take My Breath Away JW and Tiroen True Blue were Best Brace in Show handled by Kath Gilluley. Mrs Jill Peak then stepped forward and awarded the Exhibitors Trophy to Julie Clifford’s Irish Setter Tiroen Temptress; The Olga Carson to Mark Fletcher and Angie Seedhouses’s Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Brood Bitch to their Rockstaff Kaos at Granitangel; Stud Dog to Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Whippet, Barnesmore Let It Be for Elangeni and the Team to Bobby and Barbara Lawrence’s Alsatians.

Mr Ron Parkes then judged the PAT Dog and Piggy Bank Stakes which went to Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Whippet, Eeri Love Me Do at Elangeni and Special Vintage went to Russell and Christine Marett’s Cesky Terrier, Malsville Lincoln Ridley.

The Handling Classes were judged by Steven Edwards and winning the 6-11 years was Corey Stewart with David Knight 2nd. Russell Marett won the Senior Handling.

A successful dinner was held in the evening with the principle winners being awarded their certificates by the judges. Date of next show is Saturday 14th June at the RJA & HS.
