At Birmingham National, Mike Gadsby & Jason Lynn’s fabulous Black American Cocker,
Jap Ch Nereid Jp Mele Kalikimaka took Best in Show at her first outing in the UK.

Mike first saw Nami whilst judging American Cockers in Japan. At the show Nami’s breeder Honami Ito handled her. Jason tells OUR DOGS ‘She gave Mike goose bumps,
he had never seen such a fabulous puppy!’

On the day, Mike naturally gave her Best Puppy in Show. Afterwards he spoke to Toshi Ohmura (of Smash Toy Poodle fame) to see if he could help him persuade Nami’s owner to sell the bitch to him in the UK. “When asked if she would consider selling her, Ms Ito said she could come to us in the UK, in return we would send her a show bitch from Arabella. So she began the pet passport paperwork and the tentative plan was that she would bring her to
Crufts 08 for us to take home!”

Toshi and Honami travelled together and brought Nami to Crufts as promised. Nami was from a litter of one, and was line-bred on the famous American Black dog Ch Westglen Blak–Gammon. Jason and Mike told OUR DOGS ‘Birmingham was her first show in the UK and needless to say it was a fairytale beginning. Honami was in tears when we gave her the great news. News of Nami's win quickly spread in Japan as well, and a party which is planned next week by Mr Igarashi to celebrate Toshi's fantastic wins at Westminster and PCA now has two guests of honour’s to include Honami's great accomplishment on breeding a UK BIS winner! We are forever grateful to Honami for allowing us the chance to own such a spectacular bitch’.

As a side note, about 15 years ago Honami was the assistant to a famous Am Cocker handler/breeder in Chicago...Don Johnston of the very successful Forjay's Cockers!
