New breed record at WELKS
GERMAN SHORTHAIRED Pointers saw a new breed records at WELKS, when Sue and Martin Harris (Barleyarch) broke into the record books.
Not only has their top winning bitch ‘Pickpocket’ gained this honour, but also their Champion Barleyarch Playboy holds the breed record for males with 36 tickets, his first CC coming at just over 12 months of age, at the GSP Club Championship show under the President of the GSP Club of France, Renet Gerlet. His 4th CC came with BOB at East of England still at the tender age of 14 and a half months where he also won the group under well known Gundog doyenne, Peggy Grayson. He has had the CC at Crufts three times, twice with BOB, beaten only by his kennel mate Sh Ch Barleyarch Piccadilly. He has 36 CCs and qualified for his full champion status as he has also been a working gundog too. He was retired at eight years old winning his 36th CC fittingly with BOB @ Crufts under breed specialist Di Arrowsmith. He is grandfather to Pickpocket.
Show Champion Barleyarch Pickpocket had a tremendous day at WELKS but you have to go back over three years to when she took her 1st CC at 8 months old at 3 Counties under Larry Wilks. Obviously a showground where Pickpocket feels comfortable! In 2004 she was also top GSP puppy proving her breeding from great lines, was coming through. Her 3rd and qualifying CC came at Crufts with BOB as a junior in 2005 under Judge Maureen Nixon. By 2006 she was already the top GSP and picked up a BIS at the Gundog Society of Wales. Finally onto her 43rd CC and crowning glory when the breed record was won at WELKS under Ian Halbert and where she also took the gundog group under Fiona Coward Scholes at four years old.
Sue and Martin have been in the breed 26 years, have made up around 27 champions, and have won just short of 300 CCs out of just 25 litters, a tremendous feat of which they can feel rightly proud.
