Mistaken identity sees police dog bite victim

The victim of an attempted shooting in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, was bitten by the police dog, searching for his attacker, in a case of mistaken identity.

After escaping, uninjured, from the shooting incident the victim ran from the scene in the same direction as his assailant. A passing police dog handler had witnessed a man firing a sawn off shotgun and attempted to apprehend the suspect. Unfortunately the dog got the wrong man as the handler sent him off in pursuit and the victim suffered minor injuries and was treated in hospital.

A police spokesman said "The dog would find it difficult to decide which person to tackle because both men ran in the same direction", he added.

"Unfortunately the dog has gone after the intended victim - it was an unfortunate mistake really." Two men were later arrested in Nottingham in connection with the incident.
