April opening for dog gallery
Britain’s only art gallery dedicated to dogs opens soon

THE STOCKBRIDGE Gallery, dedicated to dogs in fine art, will open on Tuesday 7th April in Stockbridge, Hampshire. It is the only gallery in Britain to specialise exclusively in dogs in fine art.

On display and for sale will be a selection of paintings in a range of media as well as sculpture, prints and photographs and a selection of high quality decorative items. Leading animal artists are represented, both international and British, from the 19th century - artists such as Thomas Blinks, to the present day, including many regional, well known artists.

The inaugural exhibition will be entitled “Old Dogs…New Tricks,’ and will juxtapose period dog painting and sculpture with contemporary works from some of the finest artists working in the genre today. The exhibition will run through until 16th May.

The gallery is the brainchild of Victoria Armstrong, a successful local businesswoman and managing director of a leading events company, whose love for dogs and art led her to obtain a first class honours degree in art history, in 2007, while still running her company. While researching for her degree dissertation, ‘The dog as a theme in western art,’ and expanding her own private art collection, Victoria identified there was an opportunity to provide a unique gallery devoted entirely to canine art.

Joy

Victoria Armstrong says, “I’m passionate about dogs, and it has been a joy to put this collection together - I hope the works of art will move people as they have moved me. I feel privileged to be sharing so many artistic interpretations of man’s unique bond with our four legged friends. The collection will appeal to all dog lovers, regardless of their favourite breed.”

Along with the extensive collection for sale, the Stockbridge Gallery will also offer a commissions and framing service. With one of the largest single sources of high quality dog artists under one roof, individuals wishing to commission a painting will be able to study the range of styles and differing interpretations before selecting one of the accomplished artists represented by the gallery.

The Stockbridge Gallery is located at The Old Post Office on the attractive, historic High Street in Stockbridge, which is home to a wide variety of independent shops and other fine art galleries. The gallery will open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and other times by appointment and more information can be seen on www.dogsinart.com (going live on April 1, 2009). Works range in price from £175 to £15,000, with most in the £1,000 - £6,000 range.
