Health testing

OUR DOGS can report that at the Eastern Counties Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Championship show, held on Saturday 11th April, 60 Cavaliers were heart screened. Cardiologist - Clive M. Elwood, (MA VetMB MSc PhD CertSAC, MRCVS, DipACVIM, DipECVIM-CA, RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Medicine) screened the 60 Cavaliers, issuing Heart Certificates. This was organised by the ECCKCS Society as part of their on-going commitment to encouraging members to health screen all their stock.

Maryann Hogan (Secretary) told OUR DOGS that the Committee were delighted with the uptake of heart screening over last year when only 33 dogs took advantage of the subsidised screening. This year at the same event, a silent auction and a live auction were held, to further raise monies for the ECCKCS Health fund. This was ably organised by Committee members Steve Mynott and Peter Towse, who delighted us all by raising in excess of £1100 (subject to all promises/purchases being kept).

This money is used for education, and research purposes, primarily in giving subsidised health testing for members in hearts and MRI's. In the ECCKCSS alone 73 MRI have been subsidised in the last nine months. The money raised will help ECCKCSS to continue the good work, going forward, all thanks to the Cavalier membership who gave so generously on the day, and who make it all possible.
