Eukanuba’s Golden Oldie competition

THIS SATURDAY sees the ever popular Eukanuba Golden Oldie competition under its new ‘ownership’, and the competition this year looks set to be as fierce as ever.

Most will associate this competition with Pudsey and District Ringcraft Club, which has run the competion every year since its inception in May 1997.

However, it was decided by Pudsey that last year would be the last year they would stage the event. This led the committee of Huddersfield CA to offer to take it over and this weekend’s event at Thorpe Willoughby Village Hall, Near Selby, North Yorks, promises to be as good an evening as we have all come to expect.

Run as usual under match rules, dogs representing their clubs must be a minimum of seven-years-old and have won nothing higher than a Res CC, which gives the competition a really level playing field. There are 22 dogs entered and sponsorship this year is again provided by Eukanuba, Westgate Giftware and Our Dogs, with plenty of prizes on offer for all entrants.

Erica Greenwood of Eukanuba will be attending, so anyone who has any questions concerning feeding a Golden Oldie (or any other dog) will be able to consult her.

Barry Medforth of Westgate Giftware is bringing James Skerrett, the former Worcester artist who paints all the plates, lamps etc for him and he'll be doing a demo and taking any commissions on the night.

Our Dogs photographer Alan Seymour will be there with his studio to take photos of the event and photograph exhibits for adverts in the feature. He could also take photos for exhibitors to commission James Skerrett.

The compere for the event is the one and only Maurice Webb, a familiar face at this event over the years.

Tickets for the event are unfortunately sold out, but watch Our Dogs for a photograph of the winner of Eukanuba Golden Oldie 2009 next week and a special feature on the event in a forthcoming issue.

Don’t miss it!
