Fabulous routines the order of the day!

Canine Freestyle GB at Newark 2009

Canine Freestyle GB organised their second competition of the year in The Lady Eastwood Building at Newark and Notts Showground at the beginning of July 2009.

Arrangements went ahead from the moment the Kennel Club Licence was granted and this competition would include all of the regular classes plus one of the Crufts Semi-Final Qualifying Competitions for the Advanced Classes in both Heelwork To Music and Freestyle.

The flooring was the first priority to deal with as the Lady Eastwood Building has a concrete surface therefore carpeting or other impact resistant material needed to be purchased and laid. With an arena of 20 metres by 15 metres this wasn’t going to be easy. Luckily, whilst searching for a good deal, 1,500 carpet tiles were sourced through the internet and they were located within 10 miles of the committee’s base, so thankfully they proved easy to collect.

Entries for the competition were very good and at over 150 routines they would make a very manageable weekend at a venue which hadn’t previously been used by this club.

The show took two days to set up with the Committee travelling from the Club’s base in Derbyshire laden with carpet and ring and everything else needed for this type of show. As Canine Freestyle GB is an experienced club, all the planning fell into place and by mid-afternoon Friday the stage was set for a full weekend. Young Kennel Club and Freestyle classes to be held on the Saturday and Heelwork To Music plus two ‘fun classes’ to be held on the Sunday. The Lady Eastwood Building, surrounding grassland, caravan, camping and parking areas proved to be a great venue for the weekend and very popular with the competitors.

The popularity of this sport is forever increasing and the fabulous quality of the routines watched over the two days certainly inspired quite a number of the general public, who formed most of the audience, to make enquiries for training and further competitions.

Canine Freestyle GB would like to thank everyone who helped during the weekend along with all our Judges, supporters and of course the competitors, without whom there would be no show. And extra special thanks to our supporter for this event, Royal Canin, who supplied food prizes for the winners and those placed 2nd and 3rd.
