Kennel Club to send UK teams overseas for Agility

THE KENNEL Club has announced that it will again be sponsoring a UK team in 2009 to take part in the European Open Agility Championships in the Netherlands in July, and the FCI World Agility Championships in Austria in September.

Graham Partridge will take over the role of team manager for the European Open, while Steve Croxford will continue as team manager for the World Championships.

The European Open squad selection day has been arranged for Saturday 18th April 2009 at Green Acres, Hellidon Road, Staverton, Daventry NN11 6JP and all competitors eligible to attend from England have been invited. Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales are in the process of arranging which dogs they will be sending to the selection day. Judging will commence at 8.30am and anyone interested in supporting this event is welcome to attend.

English agility competitors wishing to qualify for the European Open (EO) in 2010 need to take part in EO Ranking Events to gain points. These classes will be Combined 6 and 7 Agility Classes and competitors will enter these classes as normal, but gain points for the top ten places, i.e. 10 points for 1st place down to 1 point for 10th place. The top ten places will count regardless of whether rosettes are awarded to 10th place.

These ranking events will be for all heights of dog (though all heights will not necessarily be scheduled at the same show) and are open to all dogs, pedigree and non-pedigree, which are eligible for Grade 6 or 7. This system of selection will be for those competitors resident in England only, therefore only those resident in England will score points based on their top ten position at each ranking event. A points league table will be updated regularly and published on the Kennel Club website and sent to all relevant media outlets.

The Combined 6 and 7 Agility Class used as a European Open Ranking Event can be a class that is already a qualifier, e.g. Crufts Singles, Olympia, or any other sponsored event. When the ranking events have been completed, the top 30 Large, 10 Medium and 10 Small dogs (subject to change) will then be invited to the 2010 selection day. Reserves will be taken in order from the final list.

The shows holding EO Ranking Events are listed below. Results of each EO Ranking Event class will be sent to the Kennel Club within two weeks of the show.
