Amazing Chow Painting to go under the hammer

DREWEATTS DONNINGTON Priory Salerooms near Newbury in Berkshire will be offering one of the most famous of all Chow paintings in their sale on 24th February 2009.

Painted by Harold Knight RA ROI RP (1874-1961) in 1927, Lot No 119 is titled Mrs Dorothy May Hoover with her Chow Chow. The Chow Chow, Ch Choonam Brilliantine, was formerly the property of Mrs V. A. M. Mannooch of the Old House, Great Missenden, Bucks. Choonam Brilliantine (a.k.a George), was bred by Mrs Mannooch and was born in March 1924, sired by Akbar out of Ashvale Chop Chop.

The painting measures an impressive 50.5" x 40" (128cm x 102cm) and the auctioneers have placed a pre-sale estimate on the painting of £10,000 - £15,000.
