IT IS with great sadness that we report the death of Harry Mitchell who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday 4th July 2009 after a brief and final battle with the brain tumour which he had fought over the past two and a half years.
Harry will be known for showing his Dachshunds and Basset Griffon Vendeens and remembered for his favourite ‘lucky’ red corduroy show trousers and an unmistakable gait. He exhibited extensively in the north of England and in southern Scotland but viewed Crufts as the ‘premier league’ of showing and had the pleasure of seeing all his dogs qualify at least once each. The pinnacle of his show career came in 2007 when his veteran GBGV bitch won a first.
Harry had not exhibited his dogs much over the past two years; his illness precluded him from driving but he kept a close eye on results through the dog press.
Harry will be remembered with much fondness by all his friends and dog show companions and our thoughts and good wishes go to his family.
