This was a truly special show and I am sure that Tony would have loved it. The committee worked really hard to make the event different and interesting. I would like to thank the committee very much for inviting me to be a part of the day and to Paul Cassidy for his able stewarding of the ring. Thanks also to all of the exhibitors for presenting such quality animals, it is superb to see top notch exhibits at an open show – adding excitement for spectators and kudos to a win.
MPD (5,3) 1 Turner’s Impranah Urban. 6 month old, black and red gold male. This a puppy of very good type, he has an excellent head and expression. He is well balanced, with correct proportions and correct hind angles. His upper arm is a little short and steep and he needs to firm up throughout but I am sure this will come with maturity. His gait was well co-ordinated and he settled even better when challenging for Best Puppy Dog. 2 Payne’s Videx Cargo. 8 month old, black and red gold male. Another quality puppy with very good hind angulation and hocks. He is rather short coupled and has a short croup which resulted in a gait which lacked the scope and ease of the 1st puppy.
PD (5,1) 1 Hallsworth, Thomas and Bradley’s Kleeheugel Bonno. 10 month old, large, medium strength, black and red gold male. Another puppy of very good type with very good head and expression. He has very good hind angulation but his pasterns need to firm up somewhat. His gait is well co-ordinated with good reach and drive. The clear winner of the class and was awarded Best Puppy Dog over the very similar type Minor Puppy due to his maturity and overall firmness. 2 Allerton’s Lorleach Leon.10 month old, black and gold, medium size and strength male. He has a very good head and expression. His hind angulation is very good and shoulder placement is correct but upper arm is short. His croup is also rather short. He needs to be much firmer and looked a little heavy. This pup has a very free and easy movement which needs more drive but he moved up a place during gaiting as he demonstrated effortless ground cover compared to the 3rd pup. 3 Prince & Ayling’s Shernaa Chip. 9 month old, black and red gold, medium size, strong male. Good front angulation although a little wide from the front, very good hind angulation, good wither height. This pup did not settle on the move and moved rather busily with his tail held high.
JD (6,4) 1 Hughes’ Barshar Cruso. 12 month old, black and red gold, medium size and strength male. Front and hind angulation is good with high wither. This male is rather short coupled. He has good drive. As the class progressed he settled into a very good gait with good drive. This male impressed greatly in his performance during the challenge for Best Dog and I hope that his proportions improve as he matures which will make him a force to be reckoned with. 2 Powdrill’s Vonmeister Yorky. 14 months black and gold, medium size and strength male. He has normal withers, good length of croup and good proportions. His upper arm angulation is rather steep. He had good drive on the move.
SP YD (4,1) 1 Place’s Conadrew Quatro. 22 months old, black and gtold, large, medium size male. He has good shoulder angulation but his upper arm could be a little longer, his wither height is normal and proportions correct. I would prefer more solid and extensive black pigmentation and his eyes are a little light. He has a well co-ordinated gait with good drive and reach. 2 Beck’s Nikonis Yasko. 18 month old, black and gold, medium size, strong male with excellent pigmentation. He has very good head and expression. He has good hind angulation, normal wither and slightly short proportions. On the move this dog had good co-ordination but did not have as much drive or scope as the first dog. 3 Aldridge’s Edser Anton. 20 month old, black and gold medium size and strength male. He has good angulation front and rear and good proportions. He was not shown in the best condition, looking a little lean probably as he did not have a full coat. His movement was well co-ordinated with good reach and drive but he was rolling a little across his back.
PGradD (9,2) 1 Powdrill’s Flickzenburg Diesel. 2½ year old, medium size and strength black and red gold male of excellent pigmentation. He has a very good head and expression. His front and rear angulation and wither height is good. He moved a little close at the rear. 2 Hughes’ Draycore Nao. 23 month old, large, medium strength, black and red gold male. He has high withers and good hind angulation but his upper arm is rather short and steep. He was presented in very firm, dry condition. He has a well co-ordinated gait but his croup is rather short and he holds his tail rather high but gained places in movement as he settled. 3 Sanderson’s Colthurst Wilko. 2½ year old, medium size and strength, black and red gold male. He has a very good head and expression. He has normal wither height and good angulation at front and rear with slightly short proportions. His gait was well-cordinated but tended to peak a little in the middle of his back.
LD (4,1) 1 Jermey & Smith’s Iolanda Maserati. 2? year old, medium size and strength, black and gold male. He has normal withers, very good hind angulation and good proportions. He has a very good head and expression but his black pigmentation could be more solid and extensive. His upper arm is a little short and I would prefer more substance throughout on this male. He showed well co-ordinated gait with good reach and drive. 2 Antilli Axel. 3? year old, medium size and strength, black and gold male of lively temperament. He has normal withers and very good angulation with slightly short proportions. His gait was well coordinated with good reach and drive but on the walk he ambled constantly which lost him the first place. 3 Hardy’s Nikonis Orlando. 3? year old large, strong, black and gold male. He has very good head and expression. His proportions are correct, wither height normal and very good angulation at the front and rear. He moved rather wide at the front and his side gait was well coordinated with good reach and sufficient drive but he was in soft condition and lacked the lively attitude of the first two animals.
OD (7,4) 1 Payne’s Champion Ice Von Steinhauerberg. 5 year old, large, strong, black and red gold male. He has a very good head and expression. His angulation is very good front and rear with proportions slightly short. Well co-ordinated gait with good drive and reach. Whilst they are both excellent animals, the first two dogs in this class were both rather unfit and ambled on the move at slow and faster pace, the winner just tipping the balance on performance. 2 Geissler’s Zeckel Von Der Mausespitz. 5 year old medium size, strong black and red gold male. He has a very good head and expression. His angulation is good and proportions correct with normal wither, giving a very harmonious picture in stance. His gait is well co-ordinated and reach and drive are good. His performance on the move was disappointing. 3 Hughes Zampano Von Der Piste Trophe. 6 year old, black and red gold male with excellent pigmentation. He has very good head and expression. He has very good angulation front and rear, normal withers and good proportions. His gait was well-cordinated with good reach and drive although he ambled at the walking pace. Another excellent male but lacking in the substance and strength of the first two males.

I would like to thank the GSDL for the invitation to judge this very special show, the Tony Howson Memorial show. It was a fitting tribute to Tony that so many people attended, and also brought some of their very best animals to exhibit. I sincerely hope that Tony's widow Gill, along with their children, extended family, and of course Tony's father and mother enjoyed their day and realised how much Tony was loved and respected. He is sorely missed. The venue is one that every club dream of, fabulous layout, friendly committee members, good food and drink, which was very well priced good car parking, everything to make the show go with a swing. I would also like to thank the very, very hardworking committee for their sterling work throughout the day, my steward Viv Kelly, and last but not least the exhibitors, thank you.
BITCHES:
MP A nice class of puppies with Gazjackhof Carlyhe first three being slightly forward with regard to their show training development. The first placed female was. 8? months old. A very typey female, large, middle strong, very expressive, excellent proportions, balanced, with normal wither, straight strong back, leading to normal croup, excellent angulations to the hindquarters, with good thighs, very good underline, excellent angulation to the front with long upper arm, and normal chest development, she stands correct in front with good bone, legs and feet, sound coming and going. This female won the class on her excellent side gait which came from her hindquarters which she used very well throughout the gaiting phase, enabling her to always have the correct sequence of steps, and remain balanced and harmonious at all times. Very Promising and BPB. 2 Videx China. 8-months, another very beautiful puppy of excellent type, middle size middle strong, very good head and expression, normal wither, firm dry back, good length and lay of croup, very good rear angulation, broad thighs, good fore angulation, being hypercritical I would not like to see this female any deeper in her chest development. Her movement is very good, with much the same comments as the first placed bitch; in fact this female led the class for a short period before deciding she wanted to go back to being a playful puppy. Very Promising. 3 Shernaa Barbie. 8-months, completing a trio of very nice puppies, who I am sure most of us would like to take home. Over middle size, middle strong, of excellent breed type. Very good head and expression, good strong under jaw, normal wither, firm straight back leading to croup of good length, but slightly flat. Excellent hindquarter angulation with strong, well muscled thighs, very good front angulation, stands correct in front, with good bone, legs and feet, slightly loose going away, okay coming. Excellent side gait with great drive coming from her very deep, broad thighs.
PB 1 Antilli Gypsi. 10-months, a very typey bitch, of middle size, and strength, very expressive female, normal wither, straight, firm back leading to short, slightly steep croup, she is well angulated both fore and rear, with a good underline, she stands correct in front, sound coming and going, with a very expansive side gait, she won the class on her absolute willingness to perform. Very Promising. 2 Shernaa Cookie. 10-months. Very well pigmented female, middle size, and strength, excellent head and expression, normal wither, firm straight back leading to a well moulded croup, with good length and lay. Very good angulations both in front and behind, with a good underline, she stands correct in front, slightly loose going away, okay coming, this is another female with an excellent side gait, coming from very well developed hindquarters which she used very well. Very Promising. 3 Arkashan Illusion. 10-months. A large substantial female, strong head with good expression, normal wither, firm back leading to a short croup. Well angulated with a good underline. She stands correct in front, and is sound both going away, and coming toward, good side gait, curls her tail on the move. Very Promising.
JB 1 Flickzenburg Immi. 17-months. A very strikingly beautiful grey sable female of excellent type. Over middle size, middle strong, very good head and expression, normal wither, firm straight back leading to normal croup, very well angulated, good under and overline, very balanced female and is very pleasing in both stance and in her movement, which enabled her to move to the front of the class from her initial call out place, she is very balanced and harmonious, if I wanted anything more from this female, it would be a touch more loin, but that is detracting from what is a very, very good animal, her litter sister was also highly placed, which suggests they will both make good breeding prospects. Very Good and RBBIS. 2 Nikonis Dolores. 12-months. Another very good grey female of very good type, middle size and strength, short coupled, good head and expression, normal wither, firm back, good length of croup, well angulated, stands a little narrow in front, slightly close going away, very good side gait, which is marred by a twist in her tail. Very Good. 3 Samstag Jana. 12-months, over middle size and strength, I would prefer a broader skull, normal wither, firm and dry, steep croup, very well angulated, slightly deep in brisket, stands correct in front, sound away, and coming, with an excellent side gait. Very Good.
Sp YB 1 Kassieger Verona. 18-months. very typey, well pigmented bitch, middle size and strength, of slightly stretched proportions. Good head, normal wither, firm straight back, leading to a slightly short flattish croup. Very well angulated in both the front and rear, with broad thighs and a long upper arm, stands correct in front, sound away and coming, with an excellent side gait. Very Good. 2 Flickzenburg Indy. Litter sister to the previous class winner, and much the same comments apply, her croup is not quite as long as her sister’s, but this female has more length of loin. Very good mover, but I just narrowly preferred the forward reach of the first bitch. Very Good. 3 Etchica Queska. 18-months, large bitch of very good breed type, well pigmented, good head and expression, normal wither, firm back, slightly steep croup, she needs more second thigh, well angulated in front. she stands correct in front, is sound both coming and going, she has a good side gait, but has a tendency to curl and fly her tail. Very Good.
PGB 1 Shernaa Chanty. 2-years, middle size, middle strong female of excellent breed type. Very good head and expression, normal wither, firm straight back, leading to short slightly steep croup, stands correct in front, close away, and opens elbows slightly coming toward, very good side gait, with good drive from behind, croup steepens slightly more on the move. I was informed that this was her first show that being the case her owners are to be commended, as she performed admirably. Excellent. 2 Etchica Piper. 2? years. Over middle size and strength, typey expressive female, normal wither, firm and dry, normal croup, well angulated both in the front and rear, stands correct in front, okay going away, opens elbows coming toward. Very good side gait. Excellent. 3 Draycore Niska at Reyanheath. 2-years middle size typey female with very good head and expression, normal wither, firm back, well angulated, stands correct in front, but lacks bone substance. Loose away, narrow coming toward, good side gait. Excellent.
LB 1 Videx Rakell. 22-months. Absolutely top class female of the type that can win anywhere. Very well proportioned. Middle size middle strong with excellent expression, normal wither, firm straight back leading to croup of good length and lay, very well angulated in the hindquarters, with broad strong thighs, good underline, excellent angulation in front with normal brisket development, stands correct in front, going away one can see that she needs to firm up a little in her hocks, indeed one breeder in a conversation with my good friend Bill Owen, questioned the wisdom of giving this female the top honour, as I had criticised a couple of animals in my verbal critiques in earlier classes, regarding their hindquarter looseness. To penalise this female on this one point would be churlish, it is rather like calling Sophia Loren ugly because she has a large nose. This female exudes class in every way, she is balanced, harmonious, athletic and a credit not only to her breeders, but also to the breed. Excellent and Best in Show. 2 Flickzenburg Catalina. Another beautiful grey female of excellent breed type, 2-years, over middle size and strength, excellent head and expression, normal wither, firm straight back leading to well laid, but slightly short croup, excellent angulations fore and rear, a very balanced female who gave the first bitch a run for her money, her very good movement comes from her deep, solidly muscled thighs which she used to great effect. Excellent. 3 Impranah Razzamattaz. 3? years, another female of excellent breed type, well pigmented, middle size and strength, good head and expression, firm straight back, slightly short croup, very good angulations, stands correct in front, sound going and coming with an excellent ground-covering gait, remaining alert and athletic throughout the class. Excellent.
OB 1 Peterwell Sonara. 5-years, over middle size and strength, good head and expression, normal wither, firm and dry, short croup, very good rear angulation, with strong well muscled thighs, balanced female who is pleasing to the eye, with good deportment in all phases of the gaiting. Excellent. 2 Mascani Odessa. 2-years. Another very good grey female of excellent breed type. Middle strong with very good head and expression, normal wither, firm and dry, normal croup, very good rear angulation, long but steep upper arm, stands correct in front, sound away and coming, same comments apply as first bitch with regard to balance and presentation, excellent side gait. Excellent. 3 Aurora Von Aurora Von Annok. 2? years. Over middle size and strength, very typey, expressive female, with normal wither, straight firm back leading to normal croup, well angulated, stands correct in front, sound away, toes in coming toward, with her left front leg crossing the right leg, quite noticeably during the fast gaiting phase. Excellent.
