transfers up
Registrations have dipped slightly compared to this time last year, despite enquiries for pedigree puppies remaining at a high level on the Kennel Club's Find a Puppy service, the overall volume of dogs registered has fallen again in the second quarter of the year as compared to 2008.
A Kennel Club spokesperson said: ‘This reflects the unsettled financial times in which we live and perhaps indicates a reluctance by breeders to risk having litters during a period of uncertainty. It is, however, encouraging to note that registrations have risen by 4.2% when compared to the first quarter of the year.
‘This increase was experienced despite the Kennel Club suffering a significant problem with its internet service provider for a period of time during May. This led to online registration services being unavailable for several days.
The ratio of transfers to puppies registered also remains higher than normal at 68% despite this online service also being interrupted during this time.
