Woman attacked

A woman was airlifted to hospital after being attacked by a dog which she feared was going for her young daughter on a Teesside beach.

The incident happened on Sunday afternoon as the local woman was with her family at Marske beach, Redcar. The pit bull-type dog attacked the woman as she shielded the girl from the animal and suffered a bite to her calf which went through to the bone.

The dog and its owner are being hunted by Cleveland Police. A force spokesman said the dog owner left the scene without leaving his details. He is described as being in his early 20s, with dark hair and was wearing yellow and orange shorts.
