Robin Searle pictured in the judge’s hospitality at Southern Counties Ch show last weekend, looking well and enjoying his copy of Our Dogs.
At the show, Robin was judging the Hound group, as well as an excellent entry of over 200 Shetland Sheepdogs. (A minute’s silence was held in memory of his ex-wife Margaret Norman (Fancehill) who sadly died last month.)
Born into a doggy family, Robin began his judging career judging in l959. Interestingly, his mother Lal Searle, a successful breeder/exhibitor, wrote Our Dogs Borzoi breed notes until the early nineteen sixties when Robin took over, and he continued in a similar vein until well into the nineteen eighties.
He freely admits the highlight of his illustrious career has to be judging the Hound Group at Crufts 2006 which gave him a focus to recover from major surgery undergone in 2005. This year he judged the Working Group at Crufts and is judge elect for the Pastoral Group in 2010. He awards CCs in over 40 breeds across five groups as well as the Hound/Working/ Pastoral Groups and Best In Show. Never one to refuse a challenge, he has been Chairman of the Bulldog Breed Council since its inception. His passion for his beloved Bulldogs remains unabated and constant. Robin has bred champions across many breeds, judges worldwide and is still in great demand.
Southern Counties was a lucky show for his wife, Sue, who added another Great Dane champion to her successful Murrayvhale kennels, when M. Major got his crown. Owned in partnership until recently with Mr & Mrs Darren Haynes, Major is certainly “bred in the purple” being the second from his litter to make up (Ch M Mademoiselle) both are sired by the Searle’s import the late, lamented “Ch Sinclair”.
I know Robin and thought this an accurate outline of this Dog Gentleman's history
