The Top Bedlington Terriers of 2008
Gala Dinner Dance & Competition

THE BEDLINGTON Terrier Association (BTA) and the Midland Bedlington Terrier Club (MBTC) organise the above annual event in turn each year. This year it was the turn of the BTA to host the event which had a change of format enabling the entry fees to be maintained at the same rates as last year thanks to the kind support from the Southern Counties Championship Show Committee who provided the venue on Friday evening.

Judging commenced at 5pm with three well respected Terrier judges: Liz Cartledge, John Holden and Tim Bounce examining and scoring the qualities of each dog in turn. Judges’ Scoring Booklets divided the Breed Standard up in to six sections with an attainable score of 10 points for each section totalling 60 points from each of the three judges for each dog. These scores were then transferred to a computerised scoring system and the final scores for each dog produced in numerical order. A paper copy was also produced as back-up and cross-checked in case of computer failure. Everyone was given a copy of the results after the presentations.

On completion of this judging everyone moved into the Judges Reception Marquee with its pretty festooned wall coverings. A hot drink awaited all competitors and spectators before the three Fun Classes: the Happiest, the Best Condition & the One the Judge Would Like to Take Home commenced in the capable hands of one of our young members, Michelle Alders.

An excellent Dinner followed provided by the show caterers, Chris Lilly and accompanied by live music from Keith Howard’s jazz band with an impromptu cabaret from Enid, one of our MBTC supporters, to much applause from all the spectators. As the Dinner finished the auction began for the Frog Racing. The three frog owners selected frog jockeys who took up the reigns in hot competition to raise funds along with a wonderful raffle for the society towards this event.

As the hilarity of all this died down the BTA Chairman and Show Manager began the Presentation of Awards. Judges and stewards were thanked and presented with a gift and then Liz Cartledge was invited to make the Presentations to the Best Adults and Puppies from the 2008 CC, RCC, Puppy and Reserve Puppy winners who were able to attend. Twenty one adults and puppies entered with nearly fifty people in attendance. The committee of the BTA are to be thanked for organising such a successful event and they would also like to thank the MBTC for their support and their many sponsors, especially Cromesol, for the wonderful array of prizes for everyone both in the main and fun competitions. The winning adult and puppy were both awarded sponsorship by Eurodogshow to attend their European Championship Show on the weekend of 15th November 2009.
