Keith C. Barnett dies

Keith C BarnettOUR DOGS was saddened to hear of the sudden passing, on Tuesday 10th March, of Keith C Barnett, OBE MA PhD BSc DVOphthal FRCVS DipECVO DipACVO. he was 79 and had just returned from Crufts.

Keith qualified from The Royal Veterinary College, London and after a short period in general practice returned to the RVC as a House Surgeon at the Beaumont Animals Hospital. Keith then started his PhD studies (‘canine retinopathies’) and took up a position at the University of Cambridge, Department of Veterinary Clinical Studies to complete this work and start an ophthalmology unit and was appointed Assistant Director of Research. Keith then joined the Animal Health Trust in 1975 and started the Comparative Ophthalmology Unit and later was made Head, Centre for Small Animal Studies.

He became a Kennel Club member in 1978 and such was his interest in dogs, he was still working at the Animal Health Trust right up to the end. The world of dogs has lost a true friend.
