Anyone who is lucky enough to travel to South Africa and visit Simonstown in the Cape Province will have seen the marvellous Jean Doyle sculpture commissioned in the 1985,
of 'Just Nuisance' the Great Dane.

The dog which was born in 1937 became the mascot and friend of many of the sailors based in the town. He would often follow them by train to Cape Town and accompany the boys back home after nights out on the town!

He passed away in 1944 after complications set in following an accident, he would often jump off the back of moving lorries! He was buried in the town with honours and was acknowledged as 'Able Seaman Just Nuisance' - loyal friend and companion of sailors who called at this port during World War II. Remembered with affection.'
