Finnish Spitz record Holder dies

Ch Toveri Nero JW

On Monday the 18th May 2009 the Finnish Spitz breed record holder Ch Toveri Nero JW died at the age of 16 years and 10 months. He was born on the 13th July 1992, from Ch Kiiski of Toveri x Ch Natti from Toveri and was bred by David and Angela Cavill. He was owned by Les and Joan Bateman and Lucy Byrne and handled to all of his CC’s by Lucy Byrne.

He achieved his Junior Warrant but his show career never really took off until he was two years old when he was made up in four shows during the August of 1994. The following years proved extremely successful and he was Top Dog in the breed for the next four years and in 1995 he broke the breed record for most CC’s won by a Finnish Spitz in one year of 11 CC’s. He won eight CC’s at the breed Club and Society shows and three Best In Shows.

Due to repeat judges he was limited as to the amount of shows he could go to from 1999 onwards but he still managed to acquire at least one CC in each year. He equalled the record at the Finnish Spitz Society show in 2001 and had to wait until The Houndshow in 2002 under Michael Quinney before he finally broke the record and was retired there and then. In total he won 41 CC’s under 37 different judges, however a CC at Crufts always alluded him, however he did win a RCC there in 1999.
