Much in little at MBT club’s team event!
The Miniature Bull Terrier Club's motto is multum in parvo - much in little and there were a record breaking 80 "littles" (Minis) entered at the Club's Championship Show on November 8th.
The Club was also hosting its first ever International Team Event, so the excellent, dog friendly, Yew Lodge Hotel, in Kegworth played host to a variety of nationalities. The weekend started with a banquet and disco for over 60 people on Saturday 7th.
The show hall was most attractively set out and included a representative from the Fit and Fertile (AHT) who was able to offer important DNA swabbing for PLL Gene testing, and reduced price microchipping, all carried out privately in a side room. Special Banners produced by Dominic and Elaine Clark reflected the nationalities present.
Champion Show Judge Mrs Lynne Myall AKC (Iceni) a judge for all Terriers/Groups and BIS had travelled from Seattle. International Teams were judged by Mr Daniel Mesegeur-Bernal (el Cornijal) from Spain, and Mrs Edie Micklethwaite (Curraneye) from Yorkshire.
The Championship show produced the rare sight of twelve minis in both the Open Dog and Open Bitch class with judge Mrs Myall steadily working her way through. There was - of course - the odd hiccup with non-English speaking exhibitors being unfamiliar with the British Show scene.
BIS and DCC dog went to Mrs D Vickers home bred Ch.Duvessa Red Cloud (Ch.Seayess Smart Love ex Turnstyle Lady at Duvessa(, this was his 4th CC at only 20 months.
RBIS, BB and BOS went to another English dog bred by Mr Garner and owned Mr and Mrs Llewellyn, Merkava Kleopatra by Bullypins, (Bullypins Kaimos ex Merkava Xtra Factor) only just into Junior Bitch at 13 months old. Best Puppy in Show was Miss Higgott and Mr J. Neame's Badlesmere Bering's Express bred by Mrs J Shaw (Badlesmere Bete Noire ex Badlesmere Bond Diamond) and Best Veteran Mrs Ford's Bullyon Maid to Order (aged 7) and bred by Mr and Mrs Phillips (Merlindan Othello ex Bullyon Splash Out).
Sebastien Le Meaux entertained the crowd by running backwards up the mat with his borrowed Warbonnet Brace!
Bavaria, Spain, Germany, The MBTC and the Celtic team consisting of dog and bitch under l8 months and dog and bitch over l8 months plus a champion dog and champion bitch, were judged in six classes with both judges awarding their places first to sixth, independently, and without announcement. Each place worth corresponding points.
Winning the first ever International Team Event to their huge delight was Bavaria with Mr Scherzer's Henry Von der Alten Veste, and Wladimir von der Alten Veste and Mr Schmidt's Hunter Vom Kaiserstuhl (dogs) aided by Brommont and Lothary's Jamaica Bonsai von Amadis, Mrs Pljevaljcic's Rebel Spirit Amica and M.Santana Bumblebee of Slanting Shore (bitches).
Germany was second beating the Celtic Team into third place by only one point, the home team MBTC were fourth with Spain going into 5th place.
The whole weekend was extremely well sponsored from dog food manufacturers to innumerable individual sponsors, with every exhibitor receiving a goody bag containing all manner of items.
The journey from Germany certainly was worth it for Misses Oder and Prengschat's Potsu de Notsu Archibald Attila, who took the Reserve Dog CC in the Championship Show. He is by Hutch-Spike vom Kaiserstuhl ex Inglisilm Amanda va Potsu de Notsu. The Reserve Bitch CC stayed at home with Mrs Shaw's Badlesmere Beeswax by Ch. Seaquest Mr Bombastic ex Badlesmere Beesbuzz.
