Canine Freestyle GB at Tomlinson’s Canine Centre, Markfield

Canine Freestyle GB (in conjunction with North Derbyshire Dog Agility) once again held their successful Autumn Show at Tomlinson’s Canine Centre, Markfield, Leicestershire on the weekend of 12th and 13th September.

The Committee arrived at Tomlinson’s e arly Saturday morning to set up for the two day show. The “Training Hall” at the Canine Centre had been well cleaned and all the Agility Equipment was safely stored out the way. The venue isn’t the biggest so every square inch is utilised fully.
In less than one hour, the hall was once again transformed into a theatre for the Heelwork To Music Competition. They received well over 200 entries for the weekend - including the last of the Crufts Qualifying Competitions for the Advanced Classes in both Heelwork to Music and Freestyle. Officials and competitors gathered at one end of the hall and spectators at the other. The sun was shining and the outside temperature quite warm so 10 people had been designated car-park duty to ensure there were no hot dogs in the cars. Mr Ron Crago took on the roll of Car Park Supervisor and armed with clipboard carried out his duties impeccably. The scene was set for a fabulous weekend of new routines and entertainment and of course all this within the friendly and competitive spirit which is forever growing in this sport.

The hall was bedecked with banners and a beautiful rich red backing cloth gave the hall a professional finish to the photographs – all taken by Mr Allan Brown. (For copies please email karen.sykes@t6alktalk.net)

A small marquee was erected for competitors to be shaded before entering the competition area and with a brisk breeze blowing – the hall was well ventilated in the September sunshine. The committee also sourced a sturdy, portable ramp to ease access to all areas for those who may need it. This show attracted entries from both Denmark and Belgium and our overseas competitors must be congratulated as they were placed first in nine of the 14 Official Classes. A very successful trip for them.

The members of the Canine Freestyle GB committee would once again like to thank all competitors, spectators, helpers and supporters for their help over the two weekends. And extra special thanks to their Main Supporter for this event “Royal Canin” who supplied food prizes for the winners and those placed 2nd and 3rd.

The show was held shortly after the sudden death of Canine Freestyle GB Member Mary Moffat. Mary travelled by public transport to many HTM Competitions all around the UK – her presence will be sadly missed at these shows. As a mark of respect, Canine Freestyle GB held a one minute’s silence each day of the show and has dedicated this and all their future September shows to Mary.
