Show organisers’ seminar
The National Gundog Association, in partnership with Driffield, is delighted to announce a two day seminar aimed at dog show organisers from Championship Shows to Companion Dog Shows, on Friday 6th November and Saturday 7th November 2009 at the Kennel Club Building, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.
Day 1 is Health and Safety Awareness Day: a full day aimed at raising awareness, of such health and safety issues as ‘Identifying risks and how to develop your own risk assessments and the implementation of action plans to reduce the risks at your dog show. The advice will be tailored to all types of venues where dog shows take place, such as leisure centres, established outdoor venues and greenfield sites - looking at contractors responsibilities - The implementation of evacuation procedures – Accident investigation – The law on H & S and how it effects you as an individual, together with your corporate responsibilities as a member of a committee – Fire Safety risk assessment.
There will be opportunities for questions about your specific problems with resident H&S Officer, Mr Bill Short, who has practical experience in the Fire Service and at Championship Dog Shows under the worst scenarios possible, accompanied by Mr Scott Butters, Managing Director of ‘Cope Safety Management Ltd’, Health and Safety Consultants.
Nigel Hucknall, the Managing Director of Brooks Braithwaite (Sussex) Ltd, an insurance company who specialise amongst other areas in Canine Show insurance (Pet Plan Sanctuary). He will discuss managing insurance risk and being adequately insured, with particular reference to the hire of equipment and public liability insurance at dog shows - We all will want to know “Are we adequately covered and what happens if we are not?” The cost of this day’s course is £25 per delegate to include a buffet lunch and liquid refreshment.
Day 2 sees the Accredited Food Safety course: The Food Standards Agency (FSA) requires that everyone who sells food at public events must hold a recognised certificate in food safety. It is a particular requirement of the Kennel Club that those organisations who use the catering facilities in the KC Building at Stoneleigh Park must be in possession of this certificate, if they are to prepare food.
This is an ideal opportunity for all those interested in catering for public events at any venue, to attend this one day course, organised in conjunction with Warwick College. On completion of the day’s course all successful candidates will receive a certificate from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health - Level 2 Award in Food Safety, which is valid for three years. The Cost of Day 2 is £40 per delegate which includes tutorage, course materials and refreshment including a buffet lunch.
We are limited to twenty five people so it really is a first come first serve basis.
If you wish to attend both days there will be a discount of £5 for the two days.
The deadline for the seminar is Wednesday 28th October 2009.
