On Sunday, 20th September, the Southern Society for Irish Red and White Setters ran its 18th Annual Field Assessment Day from the home of Chairman Muriel Iles, near Andover,
writes Julia Iles-Hebbert.
The day was slightly overcast but dry and warm with a light breeze making it a perfect combination for the 15 dogs running. It had been well organised by Committee member Roy Hartwell assisted by his wife Gina. Ron Sills, best known for his brilliant gundog display team, judged the tests which were divided into Advanced, Intermediate and Beginners.
There was a good spirit of competition between the runners and it was interesting to watch the skills of the dogs and handlers working together. A good day was enjoyed by everyone and rounded off by tea, home-made cakes and prize giving.
