Couple may lose six Siberian Huskies

A couple say they face the nightmare of putting to sleep six of their dogs after losing a planning row.

Steve and Donna Wightwick keep 15 huskies at their home and race them in dog-sled events across Europe.

The husband and wife team started their pack with two imported Siberian huskies which they bred to give them a full racing team.

But following complaints about noise from the dogs from neighbours in Princess Close, Seaford, Lewes District Council has told the Wightwicks that they can only keep six dogs at the property at one time.

The couple asked for permission to keep 12 of their dogs at their home but the council's planning committee refused the application.

The Wightwicks say it would be kinder on the animals to put them down rather than split them up.

Lewes District Council leader Ann De Vecchi said she hoped something could be done to rehome the dogs.
