Obituary - John Hambleton (Marbelton)

John HambletonIt is with great sadness that I report the sudden death of John Hambleton on Wednesday 16th September 2009.

John can best be described as a true gentleman and an outstanding character. He was a man with many qualities and great talent. In partnership with his devoted and loving wife, Mary, they established the world famous Marbelton Kennel of Boxers and Pugs, and they worked with dedication and commitment towards the development of the Boxer breed.

The Marbelton Kennel has become a legend in its own lifetime, producing 30 UK Boxer Champions and 8 UK Pug Champions, inc Championship Show Best in Show winners and Group winners. Names such as Ch. Marbelton Desperate Dan, Ch. Marbelton Druken Duncan, Ch. Marbelton Dressed to Kill, Ch. Marbelton Hey Good Lookin’, Ch. Marbelton Mosaic are just some of the great Boxers that formulated the success of this outstanding kennel.

John always had a good story to tell, and we have spent many happy evenings sharing some of John and Mary’s experiences. The story of them winning their very first CC at the Northern Boxer Club Championship Show under the all-time breed authority, Mrs Dibbie Somerfield was told in such a way that you could re-live the moment.

John was a fearless and honest judge, awarding his first set of tickets at Manchester in 1976. His final appointment was to be Boxer dogs at Birmingham National Special 150th Anniversary Show, 2009.

Just as there were many triumphant successes, there were some great disappointments, and John always faced challenges with great strength and determination. He had the ability to turn the disappointment into a positive experience. He could always be relied upon for honest, plain speaking and sound common sense. His life has been a very full and happy one. John graduated in engineering and held a number of senior positions with significant blue chip companies. We are all saddened by his sudden death; however our thoughts are particularly with Mary and Linda at this time.
