Southampton news

THE OFFICERS and committee of Southampton & District Canine Association with regret had to postpone the dog show which should have been held on 10 January. This decision was taken after the show manager and a committee member visited the venue on Friday morning.

They, with the manager of the leisure centre, took the decision that the safety of exhibitors and their dogs it was best for all concerned that the show should be postponed.

Gritting the car park was not an option, the manager had already contacted the local authority and was told the grit was needed for roads.

Every effort was made to contact exhibitors, a notice was posted on Fosse Data website and on Southampton’s own site. Radio stations covering four counties were informed. Various dog show forums had information put on them. My telephone did not stop constantly ringing for Friday and Saturday, when I had to leave the phone a message was on my answer phone. I understand
from the Leisure Centre that two cars with exhibitors turned up yesterday, to them I apologise.

The show will now be on February 28th at Applemore, the whole show transfers and all qualifying dates remain the same.

The following are judge changes: Dachshunds will now be judged by Nick Bryce Smith
Pastoral and Working Groups and Bearded Collies, Rough Collies AVNSC Pastoral and Working will be judged by Jenny Battershell Golden Retrievers, Labradors English Setters and Pointers will be judged by Shirley Oxford, AVNSC Gundog by Ray Strudwick.

Any exhibitor not wishing to attend the show and require a refund or a credit note against a future Southampton show , please apply in writing only, to the treasurer Helen Hubbard, 14 Moorlands Rd, Swanmore, Hants SO32 2QL
